Product Manager, Billing

ApplyBuilder expectation
You will not only gather requirements and hand tickets to Engineering. You are expected to work directly with contracts, pricing plans, economic events, invoices, and clients, define exactly how billing should behave from pricing rule to issued invoice to applied cash, lead Engineering through implementation, validate the numbers yourself, and stay accountable until the client's month-end close runs reliably in production.
The role
You will own product development for Bluefyn's billing capabilities: the receivables side of the platform, from pricing agreement to issued invoice to applied cash. Today that covers pricing plans extracted by AI from contracts or configured by the client, economic events rated into billable items and invoice line items, month-end close and invoice approval, credit notes and corrections, invoice documents, ERP sync, end-client receivables and cash application, revenue recognition, and multi-entity, multi-currency reporting, with agents increasingly running the workflow. This is a hands-on builder role, not a backlog-management position. As the company grows, you will help establish the product operating model and help hire and mentor the next product managers, with a clear path to Product Lead while staying close to clients, data, and delivery.
What you'll do
- Own billing products end to end. Lead discovery, domain modeling, requirements, delivery, validation, and post-launch iteration across the billing lifecycle. Prioritize by financial exposure, frequency, and client value.
- Start with the client and the economic event. Working directly with CFOs, controllers, and billing and finance operations teams, establish for every economic event which pricing rule applies, what should be billed, what was billed, the difference, and the evidence behind each invoice line.
- Productize pricing and rating. Turn MSAs, pricing schedules, tiers, minimums, FX margins, and commercial exceptions into pricing plans the product extracts from contracts or lets clients configure, with a review model driven by extraction confidence, amendment handling, and rating logic that works across products, currencies, and entities without being rebuilt.
- Own month-end close and the invoice lifecycle. Define how draft invoices are created by rule or on demand, reviewed, approved, issued, corrected by credit note or void and reissue, rendered as documents, and pushed to the client's ERP.
- Own receivables and cash application. Define the end-client account: how invoices add to the balance and payments and credits reduce it, application priorities, under- and overpayments, cross-currency settlement with rate evidence, explicit write-offs, and exceptions routed to the Workbench. Extend the model into revenue recognition.
- Write requirements Engineering can build without guesswork. Precise rules, acceptance criteria, calculation scenarios, lifecycle states, exceptions, tolerances, and expected outputs, with ambiguity resolved before implementation.
- Validate billing behavior yourself. Use client economic events, contracts, and independently calculated expected invoices to verify that shipped billing is correct, including the parallel run during client onboarding. You do not delegate all validation to QA or Engineering.
- Build trustworthy agentic billing. Define where agents may extract pricing, capture billable requests, match executions, draft invoices, or apply cash, and where deterministic calculation, client approval, and audit trails are mandatory.
- Build the future function. Help establish product principles, planning rhythm, and domain-modeling discipline, then help hire and mentor the next product managers.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of relevant experience. Product management, billing operations, revenue operations, order-to-cash, revenue assurance, finance operations, or payments, in environments where incorrect invoices or calculations create financial, client, or audit risk. What matters is combining billing depth with the ability to lead software development.
- Deep understanding of billing. Pricing models, rating, invoicing, credit notes, collections, cash application, receivables, revenue recognition, and the controls around them.
- Strong product judgment. You move from an ambiguous operational problem to a clear product model, make scope and sequencing decisions, and document rules and edge cases precisely enough that Engineering and QA can act without interpretation gaps.
- Strong financial and analytical reasoning. You are comfortable with pricing, fees, FX, tiers and minimums, balances, and transaction-level calculations, and you can inspect economic events, reproduce an invoice, and quantify the difference.
- Engineering fluency. You work effectively with engineers on APIs, data models, event-driven workflows, calculation services, and ERP integrations. You do not need to be a software engineer, but you must understand how the product is built.
- Client-facing confidence. You can lead conversations with CFOs, controllers, billing and finance operations teams, and auditors.
- An AI-native working style. You already use AI and agentic tools for substantive work and know how to validate their output.
- High ownership and startup range. You remain accountable until the client's invoices are right, and you are comfortable in a fast-moving stealth startup with broad ownership and limited process.
Nice to have
- Billing platform experience. Usage-based or transaction-based billing products, or billing built in-house at a fintech or marketplace.
- Fintech domain depth. Payments, PSPs, FX, multi-currency, treasury, or financial infrastructure.
- Accounting and audit background. Order-to-cash, ASC 606 or IFRS 15, ERP integrations, or revenue assurance.
- Hands-on data and rules skills. Practical SQL, spreadsheet modeling, and turning contracts and pricing annexes into executable rules.
- First-product-hire or early leadership experience. You have been an early product hire, built a practice without a mature product organization, or mentored people and can grow into formal leadership.
Why this role
- A true founding seat. Shape the billing product and the product discipline from the beginning, with a clear path to Product Lead as the product and team expand.
- Billing that proves itself. Usage billing tools price seats and API calls. Bluefyn bills money movement: MSA-driven pricing, multi-currency, FX margin, and end-client receivables, with every invoice line traced to an economic event, a pricing rule, and a contract.
- Small senior team. Work directly with the founders and engineers, with broad ownership and minimal bureaucracy.
