Builder expectation

You will not only design screens and hand them to Engineering. You are expected to stay with the work until it ships and to directly ship contained product improvements and UX/UI fixes yourself: inspect the product, make the change in code, test it, open the pull request, and own it through release.

The role

You will be Bluefyn's first dedicated product designer and will own product design end to end, from shaping the problem to validating what shipped, for CFOs, finance operations teams, treasury managers, controllers, and compliance teams working with dense financial data and consequential workflows. This is a hands-on builder role, not a Figma-only handoff position: design remains your primary craft, with AI and coding agents in your daily work and small fixes shipped yourself. As Bluefyn grows, you will establish the design function and define the product-design standard, with a clear path to Design Lead while remaining close to customers and the product.

What you'll do

  • Own product design end to end. Lead discovery, workflow definition, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, implementation review, and post-release iteration across the platform.
  • Start with the user and the decision. Interview customers and prospects, understand how finance teams work today, identify the decisions they need to make, and shape requirements early with founders and engineers, challenging ambiguity and defining states and edge cases.
  • Simplify complex fintech workflows. Design clear experiences for provider contracts, pricing and fees, FX benchmarking, billable events, billing, transaction-level P&L, ledger and AR workflows, approvals, reporting, and AI-enabled product surfaces.
  • Own implementation quality. Use the product, test the complete workflow, compare what shipped with what was intended, and resolve contained issues yourself, such as copy, empty/loading/error states, layout and spacing, accessibility, and validation messaging, rather than only logging them.
  • Build the design system in the product. Establish reusable patterns, components, states, tokens, and content conventions, and keep the coded product aligned with them.
  • Design trustworthy agentic experiences. Make tool actions, permissions, human approvals, failures, uncertainty, audit trails, and recovery understandable to users.
  • Build the future function. Establish design principles, rituals, and documentation, then help hire and mentor the next designers as Bluefyn scales.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of hands-on product design experience. You have shipped real B2B software, owned workflows from ambiguity through production, and can explain the problem, constraints, tradeoffs, and what changed after launch, not only show polished concepts.
  • Working frontend fluency. You can navigate a component-based codebase, work with Git and pull requests, and safely ship small UI fixes yourself.
  • An AI-native working style. You already use AI and coding agents for substantive work, understand their limitations, and know how to validate what they produce.
  • Practical fintech understanding. You can learn transaction lifecycles, fees, FX, billing, balances, ledgers, and controls well enough to design correct workflows and ask precise questions. You do not need to be an accountant.
  • Customer-facing confidence and written reasoning. You run interviews and workflow discussions with CFOs, treasury teams, controllers, and finance operations, and you document decisions, states, and edge cases clearly enough that Product and Engineering can act without guesswork.
  • High ownership and startup range. You stay with the problem until the product is shipped, tested, and improved, and you are comfortable in a fast-moving stealth startup with broad ownership and limited process.

Nice to have

  • Fintech domain depth. Experience in payments, treasury, billing, accounting, reconciliation, banking, compliance, or financial operations.
  • Data-product experience. You have designed tables, filters, comparisons, exceptions, investigation workflows, and decision-support interfaces for expert users.
  • AI and agent product experience. You have designed copilots, agents, approval workflows, or products involving non-deterministic behavior.
  • Early leadership experience. You have mentored designers or engineers and can grow into formal design leadership.

Why this role

  • A true founding seat. Define how the product looks, works, communicates, and earns trust from the beginning, with a clear path to Design Lead as the product and team expand.
  • Design is part of the product strategy. Bluefyn makes complex financial relationships understandable and actionable. The interface is not decoration. It is how customers understand their economics and decide what to do.
  • Small senior team. Work directly with the founders and engineers, with broad ownership and minimal bureaucracy.
